In one of his letters to his brother Theo, Vincent Van Gogh – one of the most influential painters of all time- wrote: “Death is the great secret of life. To know how to die is to know how to live”. That’s some deep shit considering Van Gogh was a troubled soul and never saw success in his lifetime. He had a complex and multifaceted relationship with death, with a good portion of his work showcasing mortality and loss. However, he also painted many works that celebrate life and beauty.

Perhaps deep down, at heart, Vincent was not Dutch but rather Mexican. Here, we see death the same way the did. We see death as certainty of life, as somber and morbid as it is… but at the same time we also celebrate death as a part of life, with so-many-colors!
