When you think of Mexico, most likely you don’t think of Japan. However, we do. Our brothers of the rising sun nation have an ancient tradition that dates centuries: “O-Bon”. This celebration worship and pays respect to the souls of the departed, and it is celebrated in the summertime. Generally, folks on Japan lay many paper lanterns over a river representing all who died in the past year, among several other cool rituals.
In Mexico we celebrate day of the dead in November 2nd and rather than paper lanterns, we visit the deceased in their physical grave and lay offerings, food and personal belongings, so our loved ones in the after life know we are thinking of them. But our Japanese amigos understand how important is to worship the afterlife, skulls included.
